After three days of productive deliberations in Accra from 17 to 19 September 2025, the Boundary Commissions of Ghana and Burkina Faso have examined and validated the draft Memorandum of Understanding to Establish Frameworks for Periodic Consultations between the two countries. A roadmap was also adopted to advance the process of concerted management of the common boundary, paving the way for the finalisation and signing of the documents by the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
Leading the Ghanaian delegation, Brigadier General Anthony Ntem, Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission, admonished participants not to see the common borders as lines of separation but rather, as bridges of cooperation. He further tasked the participants to translate the provisions of the yet to be signed frameworks into tangible improvements in the lives of the border populace.
Delivering the keynote address, Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Yussif Sulemana, reassured the meeting of the Ghanaian government’s will to ensuring that its international boundary with Burkina Faso is jointly managed, in accordance with national and international law. He further added that the frameworks, though technical documents, are tools for building a secure, united, and prosperous future for the people of Ghana and Burkina Faso.

Also present at the meeting were Madam Massadalo Yvette NACOULMA/SANOU, Governor of Burkina Faso’s Nazinon Region and head of the Burkinabe delegation; Mr. GOUEM Fidele, the Permanent Secretary of the National Boundary Commission of Burkina Faso; Hon Charles Lwanga Puozuing, the Upper West Regional Minister; Hon Donatus Akamugri, the Upper East Regional Minister; and Hon Salisu Be-Awuribe, the Savannah Regional Minister.
